COVID-19 and Maintaining Oral Health

In these uncertain times, the last thing you want to worry about is your teeth. In our office, all routine dental cleanings and non-essential treatments are suspended until 3/30. However, emergency care will be available. Although routine checkups have been canceled, it is important to remember that diligent home hygiene makes a big difference. The dental team at Lee, Bonfiglio, Vesely, and Associates want to share some tips for maintaining your oral health in and outside our dental office.

Caring for Your Teeth at Home

Are your practicing self-quarantine or social isolation? Use some of this new extra time at home to lavish some extra care on your teeth. Every dental health routine should include regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush, flossing, and mouthwash. Take this opportunity to brush after every meal, not just twice a day. Floss every evening and use mouthwash to keep tooth decay at bay. Keep an eye on your diet, as well – we know it can be tempting to snack on unhealthy foods when you’re stuck at home. However, sugar is the enemy of healthy teeth, so limit your sugar intake whenever possible. With a little extra attention to your teeth, there is no need to worry about undue damage between dental checkups.

Schedule an Emergency Appointment

If you are experiencing undue pain or swelling, or if you suffer facial trauma or other unusual damage to your teeth, we are still available for emergency appointments. If you have a complaint that can’t wait, feel free to call us for advice on dealing with the problem, or the potential for an emergency dental appointment. To help our emergency patients feel safe, we are limiting physical contact and enacting stricter-than-ever office hygiene and sanitation policies.
